RESOLUTION OF THE
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COURT OF APPEALS
June 1, 2017
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri, Esquire, has devoted the majority of her legal career
to serving the citizens of the District of Columbia; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri has served the District of Columbia Bar as its Chief
Executive Officer (“CEO”) for 35 years until her well-deserved retirement on March 31, 2017;
and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri has, during her tenure as CEO, overseen the rapid
increase of bar membership from approximately 35,000 to over 100,0000, as the second largest
bar in the country; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri, through her leadership, has helped transform the
bar’s pro bono efforts into the widely-respected D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri, through her leadership, has helped introduce
numerous cutting-edge bar programs, including the award-winning Continuing Legal Education
program, the mandatory fee arbitration program, the Lawyer Assistance Program, and the
Practice Management Advisory Service; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri has fostered a strong relationship with the D.C. Courts
through her efforts to support and promote both institutions; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Mazzaferri has performed all of her duties with excellence,
professionalism, devotion, and integrity.
THEREFORE, it is with sincere appreciation that the District of Columbia Court of
Appeals commends Katherine Mazzaferri for her dedicated and untiring service to the profession
and wishes her good health, happiness, and continued success in her retirement.
