Ms. Flanagan has served as primary counsel in jury and court trials, appellate proceedings,
arbitrations, mediations and agency proceedings. She has served as counsel for joint defense
groups in a variety of contexts.
Ms. Flanagan has focused her practice on litigation, alternative dispute resolution and
administrative proceedings in the commercial, academic, medical and environmental areas. She
has had extensive motion, trial, arbitration and appellate experience dealing with disputes in a
variety of business contexts, including antitrust and unfair competition issues, unfair business
practices, employment disputes, environmental compliance and cost recovery, trade secret,
breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference, defamation, commercial leases, tax and risk of loss.
She has defended a university and its hospitals in a variety of student, employee and faculty

actions challenging bank fees as unfair business practices and alleging price-fixing conduct and
unfair competition in various product markets. She successfully handled a significant arbitration
on behalf of two hospitals in a dispute with a national nursing agency that staffed the hospitals

variety of other business disputes. In the environmental area, Ms. Flanagan has extensive
experience with government and citizen enforcement actions, as well as disputes between private
parties. She has served as lead counsel and a member of PRP negotiating and steering
committees.
Ms. Flanagan was elected to the Managing Board for 2006-2008. She has served on various firm
committees, and was elected to the Executive Committee for the 1993-94 and 1995-96 terms.
She served as Managing Partner – Professional Resources and Practice for the 1995-96 term.
She was Co-Leader of the firmwide Litigation Section from 2001 through 2003, and was the
Manager of the San Francisco Litigation Section from 1998 through 2004.
Ms. Flanagan has been active in community affairs, serving on numerous boards and working on
pro bono cases through Pillsbury. She is currently a member of the board of the Lawyers’
Committee for Civil Rights. She has been active in professional activities as well, currently serving
on the board of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Ms. Flanagan was awarded a two-year fellowship from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to
intern as litigation counsel with the National Military Discharge Review Project, through which she
represented veterans and supervised Georgetown law students in a clinical education program
from 1976 to 1978. She worked in the Office of the Chairman of the Administrative Conference of
the United States from 1978 to 1979. She joined Pillsbury in 1980.
